the Carpet Bed Liner
June 21, 2009
A carpet bed liner is one of the ways you can keep your pickup looking good. You know most any kind of hauling you do is sure to damage the paint on your pickup bed. If you don’t keep that damage repaired, eventually you have rust and corrosion. That can equal some very expensive hauling. Here’s where carpet liners work best and worst.
1. Cushion.
Carpet really looks good when you need cushion for your cargo. Think about hauling furniture. That’s where a cushion ride is really a plus. Here’s another. If you have to move cargo around while on your knees, carpet liners are just the cushion you need. There’s another place a cushion comes in handy…
2. Dent-proof?
Maybe not dent PROOF, but some serious dent protection. That thick carpet and the backing can stop most dents before they happen. It isn’t just scratches that damage your truck. Dents and dings are no good either. Stop the dents with a carpet lining.
3. Grease?
Can carpet handle greasy, muddy cargo? It can because it’s a plastic, marine carpet. The problem is cleaning a carpet. It’s difficult to get out ground in mud and grease. So the carpet liner can handle the grease, but it’s hard to clean. For really nasty loads, you’re better off with rubber bed mats. Rubber mats are cheap and easy to clean too. Here’s where carpet liners really work best…
4. Truck caps and tonneau covers.
Put a cap or tonneau cover over a carpet liner and you have a giant trunk. Under a cover, the carpet liner stays clean and dry and it’s a luxury look and feel. Carpet can stand the weather, but it’s easier to keep looking new under a cover.
5. Easy to clean.
Look, cleaning is as easy as taking the pressure washer to a dirty liner. It’s really easy to maintain and keep clean.
6. Cheap.
For a custom bed liner that has so many advantages a truck bed carpet liner is very cheap. How cheap? About half the cost of a professional spray on bed liner. It’s surely worth a look if you’re trying to save money.
A carpet bed liner works great for the way many people use a truck. Sure, if you’re hauling greasy, nasty stuff, a rubber bed mat is the best choice. But overall a carpet liner does many things best and doesn’t cost much either.
